The Correct Order to Apply Makeup Products

Concealer after foundation? Blush before eyebrows? The order in which you should apply your makeup is a controversial topic, largely due to the differing opinions on what products should land on your face first.

But never fear—I’m breaking down the exact sequence for putting on makeup to help take out some of the guesswork and have you looking flawless. After going through your skincare routine, consider the texture and staying power of what you put on next, and don’t be afraid to slightly alter the process to make it work for you.

Check out my step-by-step application guide below.

Step 1: Primer & Color Corrector

Using a primer and/or color corrector is optional, but if you choose to use either (or both) it should be done directly after your skincare routine. This will smooth and even out your complexion and help product stay put longer.

Step 2: Foundation

Foundation acts as a foundation (no pun intended) on which to build your other makeup. Look for a formula that will enhance your skin type and tone—this will help set your other products properly. if you have even skin, you can skip foundation entirely and dab a few spots of c on your trouble spots instead.

Step 3: Concealer

Always use Concealer after putting on foundation to avoid using more product than necessary and to stop your skin from appearing cakey. Dab a buildable Cream Concealer on the spots that need more coverage (under your eyes, over blemishes, etc.), and then soften the edges with a Blender Brush.

Step 4: Blush, Bronzer, & Highlighter

To give your complexion a finishing touch, add a pop of color on your cheeks with blush, get your glow on with a shimmering highlighter, and/or try your hand at contouring with a bronzer. Layer creams under powders if you choose to use both.

Step 5: Eye shadow, Eyeliner, & Mascara

Coated eyelashes can get in the way when you’re trying to nail winged liner, so swipe on your mascara after applying your eye shadow and eyeliner.

Step 6: Eyebrows

The intensity of your eyebrows should complement the rest of your makeup, so shape and fill your arches with a cream brow pencil to match your entire look. (Pro tip: Feel free to interchange Steps 4, 5, & 6 depending on your preference)

Step 7: Lips

Because it’s the easiest to reapply as the day wears on, applying your lip color is always a good final step in your makeup routine, whether you’re simply dabbing on some tinted glass or doing a full look with liner and lipstick.

Step 8: Setting Spray or Powder

You can use one, both, or neither, Setting spray and powder are made to help your makeup last longer and look better as the day goes on—apply them right before you head out the door.

Seasonal Makeup Looks

Introduction

Different season requires different make up looks, different skin care and different make tips and tricks. Each season represents separate looks and environment. There are also different weathers in every different weathers which need special looks to be for your beauty. There are different sets of opportunities for experiments on your make up looks as there are different sets of seasons. From darker makeup to lighter to heavy makeup, you can choose the one that looks the best on you. Also applying different make up on skin requires different precautions and different care for the skin. This does not mean that you start trashing out different products from season to season. It just means that to lesser the use of some products while increase the use of others. It also helps you in to break out of your daily make up routine and get some new and fresh looks. This way, you can also judge as what color, product and combinations looks the best on you.
Every season has its uniqueness in its beauty and requires unique beauty and looks as well.

There are 4 major seasons:

  • Winters
  • Spring
  • Summer
  • Fall

Winter

This season requires deep shades and colors in the makeup for the best looks as this season mostly requires dark shades as it suits the beauty in this season and also it gives the looks warmth. Colors such as dark violet, wine or chestnut are amongst the top dark and the best colors to choose in the cold season. These colors look best on lips and eyes. But it is recommended, that if you prefer a dark shade for one, i.e. either lips or eyes, then go for a lighter shade for the another one. Example, if you choose dark color/shade for the eyes then it is better to go for the lighter shade for the lips. Don’t make all the things go dark as it also won’t look good.

The choice of shades and color of the makeup also depends upon the size and structure of your features like eyes, nose, cheeks, face etc. If your lips or eyes are small, then it is better to go for lighter shades. If you have smaller lips, then you should not go for red bold lipstick as it won’t look good on the small lips. Just go for light brown shade or light pink shade. The color combination of deep chocolate red with bright gold shadow is perfect to mood up your winter’s evening which gives a classic look to your beauty. A dark shade with shimmery gloss is also enough to jazz up your festive and holidays mood. Moisturizing lipstick also looks good during the winters as it keeps lips moisturize and also make the lips look glossy. It looks great over the chapped /dry lips. Also don’t forget to apply moisturizer as it adds moisture to your skin in the dry months of winter and also provides glow to your beauty.

SPRING

This is a beautiful season to pop out with beautiful and fresh colors. It is the season to start with a fresh and new look. Neutral colors or shades for your eyes lids are a great option to think of. Colors such as champagne pink or sheer gold are the best colors to consider. You can either look for earth-toned shadows for smoky eyes with a light pink hint. Rose pink or soft pink would be the best option for the cheeks. Bright pink with little hint of red or berry for your lips would be make extra popping effect to your beauty.

Another great option is to opt out for making lower lip grey shadowed along with a bright coral lips. This looks is good for the women with fair complexion as this combo suits them the best for spring. Adding up of black eye liner on the mower lash line will also enhance the spring looks and the top of it, you can also add black eye liner to the lower lash and smudge additional liner on the top lash line would look great.
For the women with warm skin tone, they can also choose burgundy colored lip shade.

SUMMERS

Skin and beauties in summers requires high care and protection as our skin gets exposed to the sun and its UV rays as well. Sun is one of the natural factors that can damage skin cells if the skin is exposed in the sun for long hours. Sunburn, tanning and darkening of skin are some of the examples for skin damage. Sun light is the rich source of vitamin D although. It is highly suggestible to include the sunscreen or sun protections (depending upon the area you live in) with SPF in your makeup routine in this hot season.

You can also look for bronzers for your skin as it helps your making skin glow and also provides the required vitality.
Colors such as gold, peach and bronze can make your eyes look fab. At the lower lid, khaki green colored shadow can add up the effect to your eyes. Berry lip gloss also makes your lips glossy and beautiful. Although lip liner is not necessary and you can avoid it, instead, you can either choose liquid lip color or gloss. Sheer lips are also good to go this hot season. For Most skin tones, berry pink looks great. Try to match the lip color with the lip liner to enhance your fresh and summer looks.

FALL

This summer is the end of the summers but still has some warmth in it. This season requires some of the updates in your makeup routine. Choose burgundy or emerald green eyeliner eye shadow with light liquid eyeliner for the perfect fall daytime. Dark brown or true black works perfect for the seasonal evening looks.
You can use bronzer too this season. For all the skin tone, copper cream to powder eye shadow is one of the best options to go with, as copper looks great for day and night, both in the fall season. Keeping blush neutral, just opt for light pink or peach lipstick as it makes a great pair with the copper eye shadow.

TOP 5 WINTER SKINCARE TIPS

While a bit of snowfall here and there make for a scenic touch to the winter season, let’s be honest: the cold, the slush, the harsh winds and occasional blizzard is hardly ideal. Harsh as the weather may be, there’s no reason your skin should be bullied into uncomfortable dryness and tautness! Wrap that scarf around, zip up that wool coat, and say good-bye to dry.

  1. See a skincare specialist. We all like to think weknow what’s best for ourselves, but the truth is the expertise of a skincare specialist can make a world of a difference in how you understand and treat your skin. Skincare consultations are usually free.

  1. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. It’s not repeated without reason – drinking water has its multitude of health benefits, including keeping the appearance of your skin younger and fresher.

  1. Moisturize like you’ve never before. It’s typically advised having a different skincareregimen for the spring/summer and fall/winter months because your skin has different needs depending on its environment. Upgrade to a thicker daily moisturizer to help nourish, hydrate and protect the skin from harsh conditions outdoors (depending on your skin type, of course!). Indulge in richer body lotions to prevent the rest of your skin from uncomfortable dryness or cracking. And if you think your skin needs an extra kick besides that facial moisturizer, look into investing in a protective cream for added defense and/or a night cream.

  1. Slather on the sunscreen. Too many people make the mistake of limiting sunscreens just for the summer months. Damaging UV rays are present year-round, and with the added danger of snow glare, can harm your skin. If anything, be sure to target your face andyour hands with a moisturizer or lotion with SPF!

  1. Be kind to your skin. Skin needs exfoliation on a regular basis, but hold off on the grittier or harsher scrubs. Because your skin is more delicate, and anything abrasive can further irritate it, reach instead for something like our gentle, non-abrasive Almond & Honey Scrub(perfect for your face and even your body!) or a foaming cleanser to help rid your skin of any dulling buildup and promote healthy, cell turnover rate. It’s the key to radiant, glowing skin, even in the wintertime.
